Dance Party Photos

Catching Up! We're gearing up for the Big Show!

Dear Families,

Please accept our apologies for not posting regularly. The weather got really nice and both Yatiel and I have been spending a lot more time out in camp hanging out with your wonderful campers. What a sweet group of kids so far... and hard to believe that the session only has a few more days.

Let me catch you up on what's been happening...
And then I'll be sure to put up photos from at least a couple of the days.

Sunday was our big Sleep In Sunday! Which meant that both campers and staff got to sleep in until 10am if they wanted. Of course, the staff do but over half the campers are awake by 8am and that means they can watch Sunday morning Simpsons with some of our staff. It's a Wavy Gravy tradition dating back to when the Simpsons first aired on tv over 20 years ago. After breakfast, we began our Sunday morning ritual of the big Clean Up! Every tipi group thoroughly cleaned their tipi out as well as their own section of camp. The best and most creative cleaners won special M&M prizes from Wavy. Then we did the mid-session Camp Lost & Found fashion show allowing the campers to see the latest in found fashions. Afterwards, Wavy did an extended morning reading to round out the busy morning. Then it's a yummy lunch of BLTs and salad! The nice and warm afternoon was spent lazing around the lake or hanging out in camp with more activities organized by the staff. And to end this restful Sunday, the evening program was Movie Night featuring The Incredibles - as a continuation on our superhero theme for the session.

After the weekend ended, we started up our regular routine again. Back to two classes each morning all geared with the Big Show in mind on for Saturday. This is the time that our Performance Coordinators start kicking into action and help the skills teachers develop their acts and help campers pick acts. Now that the campers have had a week to try different skills out, this is when they're encouraged to pick a few acts to specialize in. Of course the afternoon has to have some free time still  and campers are encouraged to keep going to the lake. Monday night, we bumped the energy up a notch for Dance Party night! Costumes highly encouraged with awards to best outfits and best dancers! I definitely have photos to post from Dance Party Night.

Tuesday's routine was much the same... 2 classes and the acts are really starting to develop. Teachers often start adding pick up rehearsals to the afternoon free time so that their acts will be ready in time for Weds and Thursday's Cabarets. The evening program was Adventure Night - another story line driven program that takes campers on one adventure challenge after another that often requires teamwork and cooperation to succeed.

And finally today - we get to Cabar"A". The teachers and campers prepare for the Big Show by putting up their acts first in the Cabarets - Cabar"A" and Cabar"B". Get it? :)
Half of the Big Show acts went up today and they included a clever Tightrope act based on a puppet maker, a funny Clowning act, a huge Improv act and a beautiful Triple Trapeze act set to Dr. Seuss' poetry.

Boy these days have been busy and the weather is perfect.... we couldn't ask for a better session. And tomorrow is our last day of preparing for the show until our big Rehearsal Day on Friday. But more about that tomorrow...
